Try something new at The Hawth. Meet, Learn, Participate, Create and be Inspired.

A variety of new classes will take place in the Loft at this Autumn. The Loft, in the upper foyer of The Hawth is a large, bright and welcoming studio and a haven for the arts. Offering courses run by The Hawth, as well as a space for local arts groups of any kind, The Loft is a popular creative hotspot for the town.

A popular class in The Loft are Life Drawing Classes run by Rachel Cowell from Ginger Moo. This is an informal class of drawing the human form and a great way to learn and improve skills in a bright and comfortable setting. The classes are focused on learning and experimenting with new materials and gaining more skills for people regardless of ability or previous experience. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own drawing equipment.

If you enjoy writing stories or there are stories inside you that you haven’t yet got down onto paper, there are Creative Writing Classes held in The Loft on Tuesdays from the 12 September.

These are led by Alison Carter who has had hundreds of stories and serials a year published in magazines, plus articles about writing in the trade press. The course covers the techniques of short fiction, focusing on marketable stories, finding inspiration and growing your plot and on the ‘nuts and bolts’ of submission to magazines and competitions.

For those who fancy learning a new instrument we have Ukulele classes run by Mark Orchin on Saturday mornings from September onwards. There are classes suitable for beginners to learn the basics and also for improvers to develop their skills. Mark has a wealth of experience teaching people of all ages and abilities as well as performing in local bands including the popular Touchstone.

On Saturdays you can make fabulous greeting cards with Natalie O’Shea in her marvellous Papercraft classes. If you thought you weren’t artistic, think again! Natalie will show you how easy it is to make personalised and professional looking greeting cards.

Another skill you can pick up at The Hawth is how to make your own unique bag, make-up bag, cushion or gadget case by hand in a Sewing Workshop led by Diane Carney. Come along with nothing more than a bit of enthusiasm. All fabric, needles, threads, pins, zips etc will be provided so all you need to do is turn up on Saturday 14 October between 1.00pm and 3.00pm.

If you love to sing, come and raise your voice with the Hawth Voices. A relaxed, fun and friendly singing group for people who love to sing a wide range of music. New members are always welcome. The Hawth Voices meet between 6.00 and 7.30pm each Wednesday evening. No experience or ability to read music is necessary.

So what are you waiting for? Join one of our classes and learn a new skill or improve on skills that you already have in one of The Hawth’s participatory classes held in The Loft.

If you are looking for a space to run a class or are a member of an existing arts group that needs a home The loft may just be the place you need.
