On Saturday 20th August, Crawley was treated to a surprise visitor.
Barry with Son Shane and boxer Carl 'the jackal' Frampton
Champion boxer Barry McGuigan came down to Crawley Amateur Boxing Club with his up and coming talented young boxer Carl ‘the jackal’ Frampton who is training for his European title match in three weeks time in Belfast. Barry told us he had come down to make use of sparring partners Ross Payne, Ben Murphy and Ben Jones, all renowned boxers. Barry is the Manager of Carl in association with Matchroom. Barry’s son Shane is assisting his father with the training of Carl and came along on this day.
Shelley went along to speak to Barry. We would like to thank the Hopcraft family and Micky Alldis for this great opportunity.
HELP OUR WOUNDED is a fundraising arm for The Royal Marines Association, Charity Number 206003. HOW was formed on the 4th March 2010 because of the number of seriously injured Royal Marines returning from operational tours in Afghanistan Iraq and other areas of armed conflict. HELP OUR WOUNDED is a community based effort seeking to help the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (Registered Charity No 1134205), meet it’s target of raising £6M by the 350th anniversary of the Corps in October 2014. A Campaign Board has been established to coordinate the Corps Family effort working towards this testing target and HELP OUR WOUNDED is represented on that board.
What, when and where
On December the 3rd and 4th Dave Lilburn MBE, Stuart Baldwin, Cai Ives, Stuart Bourne and Stuart Power will be pulling a sledge from London to Brighton to help raise awareness and funds for this great charity.
Quote from the facebook page:
Myself (Stuart Bourne, Regional Fund Raiser for the South Eat) along with David Lilburn,Cai Ives,Stuart Baldwin and Stuart Power will be pulling a sledge to rasie funds for HELP OUR WOUNDED ROYAL MARINES over the weekend stopping at Crawley where there will be a fundraisng event on the Saturday evening. We have also enlisted some Santa Helpers as traffic guides (Reserves) and these are : Gay Wise, Andy Hains, Dale Lilburn and Ashton Lilburn.
As well as raising funds we will be asking for donations of xmas presents so that we may pass these onto the children of those brave Royals who have given their lives and will not be around this xmas so please lets do all we can to try and raise a smile and show we do care and will never forget them.
We hope as many people will join in around the country and mirror what we are doing. We would like this to become an annual event, so take up the challenge and get pulling for HELP OUR WOUNDED ROYAL MARINES.
We wish them all the best
Shelley was invited down to the martial arts school Lumpini in Priestley Way, Crawley to speak to the men involved. We also spoke to John Jarvis who is a trainer at Lumpini who have offered to train the men to full fitness for the event. John told us they were more than honoured to help the men get fit for this feat and to support them in many more ways, including giving them a stall at their forthcoming Muaythai Boxing event happening this Saturday at Effingham Park Hotel. More details can be found here.
We would like to wish them all the best. We will be covering their arrival into Crawley on December 3rd. Please show your support in any way you can.

Our members come from such a variety of cultures and backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common – Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Our meetings are a time to get together with fellow parents and carers,to pick each other’s brains, but to also switch off from our 24/7 demands and relax. The group is currently undergoing a relaunch and it is our aim to have guest speakers in the coming months to discuss issues pertinent to us i.e behavioural problems, educational psychologists, benefits advice etc. We have a new email address which they can contact me on ‘email@example.com’ also a facebook page ‘Autism Support Crawley.’
With no game this Saturday and our next home match on the 10th January when we play MK Dons – it’s a good long break from football

Welcome to the Crawley Town Supporters Travel Group – to be known as GH Coaches
As you can see we now have an official name, we have associate membership of the FSF with our own coach insurance, a bank account and our own travel web site, Facebook and Twitter pages. It’s been a very emotional few weeks since we decided to run coaches to the away games – We would thank everyone who has helped getting everything set up for our first trip to Cheltenham on Saturday 27th August 2011. We are disappointed at the comments being made by others and contrary to what they are indicating, Kevin and I are not taking or will not take any money out, everyone who travels on our coach will pay the appropriate fare – we can confirm that any profits made will be solely used to help subsidise our future coaches and at the end of the season any surplus will be carried over. If, in the future our venture folds, then any profit made we will donated to the Chestnut Tree Charity. Bill Doidge & Tara Greenway will be overseeing the accounts and acting as signatories on the cheques, which we would thank them for their involvement. We would also than those supporters who have made donations to the setting up of the Travel Group.
CRAWLEY LUXURY COACHES – Our Coach provider
We would like to thank Dave, Gavin and Darren Brown for their help and assistance in setting this venture up, without that we wouldn’t be in the situation today where we can offer our supporters an alternative travel to away games.
Over the past 20 years our partnership as the Crawley Town Supporters Club has been able to offer supporters a cheap way of getting to games, and we intend to keep this going this season and beyond under our new identity. We know that we are working with a terrific coach company who have great respect in the industry – and whose contingency plans when we went to Manchester for the FA Cup match were very impressive – the work that went on behind the scenes for the big day were immense. David, Kevin and I learnt a lot from the experience, something we all will hopefully use again.
THE HALF MOON
We have now returned to the Half Moon as our base from January 2014 after a few months away, we will be selling tickets and the “Time of the last Crawley goal” will return – we will be sitting at the Half Moon on Saturday home match days – from 12.15pm until 2.15pm, and possible for a short time after the game. If you come into the pub we are situated immediately to your right, by the door. On the evening home games we will be at there from 6.00pm until 7.15pm. We would like to thank Nick, Binny and Chris for use of their facilities. If you can’t get to the Half Moon, then please ring Alain (07771-792346 or E mail Alain.firstname.lastname@example.org).
On the return journey, we will still do our drop off’s via Northgate and the Town Centre.
Now its up to you, the supporters now have a choice – you can either use us, the Alliance or the Jacko Express for your method of getting to away games.
This is the start of our second season as GH Coaches and we would like to thank Dave Brown and Crawley Luxury Coaches for their continuing support. Further details of coach travel to other matches will be published during the season as we go.
Again this season, we will not have a membership scheme where one supporter pays more than another to travel, any supporter can travel on ourcoaches for the same fare – some matches we will offer the under 16’s cheaper travel, and hopefully if everything goes as well as last season some fantastic fares for everyone. In the mean time and getting ready for next season please can you print & fill in the GH Form below so that we have contact and emergency details for our records.
