The Hawth’s pantomime for 2017/18, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs attracted an astounding 36,000 people to the Crawley venue during its four week run, the slightly longer run than previous years meant that more people than ever were able to enjoy the show, starring television favourite Stephen Mulhern (Catchphrase, Saturday Night Takeaway) and brilliant Dame Molly Mop played by Michael J Batchelor.
The success of the pantomime is no doubt down to the careful blend of ingredients for the festive family treat – produced, once again by Evolution Productions (who have now bought 5 hit pantos to The Hawth). Audiences were treated to hilarious comedy routines, audience participation, amazing sets a brand new 3D ghost scene that had everyone jumping out of their seats. The surprise appearance of ‘Crawley’s favourite son’ Romesh Ranganathan as the magic mirror and jaw-dropping illusions were the icing on the cake.
There was high praise from all quarters with CHT News saying “The Best Show Ever! 3D & 5 Star performance, Evolution Productions are First Class! Brian was the Best”. The Crawley and Horley Observer reviewer commenting “Each year I think the Hawth panto can’t get any better, but again they smashed it out of the park”, while The Sussex Newspaper called it “a spectacularly funny, superbly staged production”. The praise continued with both Mid-Sussex Times and and What’s Good To Do calling it a “Must-See” show.
Feedback from audiences throughout the run was overwhelmingly positive with many taking to Facebook and Twitter, with feedback like, “Blown away”, “Best panto to date.” and “Absolutely Brilliant”, “worth every penny” and many borrowing Stephen Mulhern’s line to call it “Unbelievable”.
The triumph of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs rounds off another successful year for the Crawley theatre with a number of sell out shows, including comedy performances from Rob Brydon, Romesh Ranganathan, Danny Baker, Russell Brand, John Bishop, Jason Manford, Milton Jones, Henning Wehn and Jimmy Carr, plus Strictly’s Brendan Cole, Alexander O’Neal, Jools Holland, Chas and Dave and The Magic of Motown all playing to packed houses.
Dave Watmore, General Manager at The Hawth said “I feel very proud when I look at our achievements for the past year. All The Hawth staff have worked incredibly hard throughout 2017 and it’s great to see these efforts rewarded. I’m sure that as we celebrate our 30th anniversary this year we can build on this success for an even better 2018. With Michael J Batchelor returning as Widow Twankey in Aladdin this December, and almost 6000 pantomime tickets already booked, it looks like we’re well on our way!”
