A new Independent Chairperson of West Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board has been announced.
Annie Callanan brings a wealth of knowledge to the role as an experienced senior manager with an extensive background in health and social care.
Annie will provide leadership and promote collaborative working as part of her role which includes offering constructive challenge by holding member agencies to account and acting as spokesperson for the SAB.
Safeguarding boards are statutory organisations which bring together councils, the NHS, and police, to oversee protection for vulnerable people, such as people who have a physical and/or learning disability, people with mental ill health or those who are vulnerable due to age and/or capacity issues.
Annie said she wanted the Board to be supportive while also offering constructive challenge to the member agencies so that it met its statutory duty as a Board, to hold the agencies to account. She is also keen to involve those who use services and carers/representatives in the work of the Board.
Annie has substantial experience including chairing safeguarding adults and childrens’ boards, and has worked in both local and national government and for NHS organisations.
The Independent Chairperson was appointed by West Sussex County Council through an open public appointments process.
Annie said: “I am delighted to take on the role of Independent Chair of the Safeguarding Adults Board in West Sussex and look forward to working with colleagues to build on the work to ensure services to vulnerable people are improving.”
