The Kissingate Brewery is based in Lower Beeding, but that was not always the case.
Gary Lucas originally started the business in the garage at his home in Maidenbower. Gary was granted planning permission from the council and met all the criteria for brewing from home. So it began!
That was back in September 2009. They brewed their first batch of ‘Old Tale ‘Porter on 23rd September 2009. Gary soon outgrew this space. He went on to look for bigger more established premises and found a suitable premises in Lower Beeding. In September 2010 moved into the unit on Church Lane Farm Estate in Lower Beeding. This was also short lived as in just under two years later the moved into their much larger purpose built brewery. Since February 2012 the ‘Pole Barn’ has been Kissingate’s new home.
We were invited to meet Gary and have a tour of the premises. It was a pleasure to meet Gary and his lovely wife Bunny and to take a tour of the brewery. Their production rate puts them in the ‘microbrewery’ class but let us tell you, the operation, enthusiasm, passion and hard work that goes into this business can, in no way, be classed as ‘micro’.
