Gone but there… by Mark Nadin

The rain still falls upon the Somme
The fields now ploughed the blood all gone
Washed away yet we shall remember
Those long gone on the 11th of November
So great then was the loss of life
We’ll never forget their sacrifice
Some still lay where they were slain
Beneath the ground and pouring rain
Whilst others rest beneath white stone
This foreign land their eternal home
