When Media students from Central Sussex College’s Crawley campus were given the opportunity to attend the press launch of this year’s star-studded pantomime at The Hawth, Aladdin, they couldn’t believe their luck! Having only been studying at the College for a matter of weeks, it was an exciting introduction to the fast-paced world of media for the group, who were able to photograph stars including: Les Dennis; Jon Clegg; and Noel Sullivan and also interview cast members for a podcast.
Student Scott Ives, 25, from Northgate, interviewed two of the stars of the show, Les Dennis and Noel Sullivan, having been put forward because of his passion for writing/scripting. The interview was recorded for a Student Radio project and also filmed for his Level 2 qualification. He said: “I have only been at College for five weeks and already I am interviewing major TV stars, which is amazing!”
Course Co-ordinator for Media at the College, Chris Beer, said: “This opportunity was ideal for Scott as it meant writing his own interview script and really think about what he wanted to convey in the podcast. It also gave him immediate exposure to industry contacts.”
Photography Lecturer, Don Allen, added: “Our relationship with the Marketing Department at The Hawth is only just getting off the ground, so we were delighted that some of the Level 1 students were going to get to watch a real press launch for a stage show. I was absolutely over the moon when Lorraine at The Hawth said one of the students could interview two stars from the cast.”
Once edited, Scott presented the finished podcast to Lorraine McGregor, from The Hawth’s Marketing Department.
