Popular local public house The Jubilee Oak has been hit by a fire.
At around 14:40 this afternoon CHT reader Amanda Dixon sent us a message to say the Jubilee Oak was on fire….sadly this was confirmed as fact a few minutes later.
The Jubilee Oak, part of the Weatherspoon chain, was named after the oak tree, in front of the building, planted in 1887 by Lord de Blaquiere of Springfield House, to commemorate Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee. We can confirm the tree was untouched.
5 fire crews from around the county were on hand to control and extinguish the fire, making sure all staff and customers were safely outside.
Rumours of the cause is an electrical fault but there is no confirmation on that as yet.
We are glad everyone is safe.
Thank you to Amanda Dixon and Jacky Cook for use of the pictures.
