Appeal for witnesses after man robbed at knifepoint in Crawley

Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery during which a man was threatened with a knife and a hammer.

The incident took place at around 9.00pm on Saturday (25th March) in Soane Close, Bewbush, Crawley. The victim, a 42-year-old man, had arranged to meet a woman he had been talking to online but was instead greeted by a man armed with a knife and a hammer. The suspect emptied the contents of the victim’s wallet before fleeing. The victim was left shaken but unharmed.

The suspect is described at white, around 5’9″, with short black hair and stubble.

DC Kirstie Neal said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Soane Close and may have seen what happened to come forward. We are also seeking anyone else who may have fallen victim to this previously and hasn’t come forward yet. Finally, I would urge those members of the public using the internet to make connections to exercise caution when meeting someone for the first time and consider arranging to do so in well lit public places with lots of people around.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police online via or call 101 quoting serial 1419 of 25/03. Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously via or call 0800 555 111.
