Moscow State Circus
Legenda – Once In A Life Time
Monday 1st – Wednesday 3rd March
8pm plus Tues & Wed at 5pm
Roll up roll up the circus is coming to town! Moscow State Circus returns to The Hawth with this once in a life time opportunity to see the award-winning show Legenda, bringing with it a huge cast of Russia’s greatest and most flexible circus performers. Many of the critically acclaimed acts are pushing the boundary of human physical ingenuity to its limits.
However this time the greatest show on earth has had a facelift and been revolutionised. The world’s most famous circus collides with the legendary Russian folklore figure Rasputin to create a sensational show that combines contemporary & classical circus at its very best.
Rasputin was often described as a romantic, a mystic and a visionary. Words that could easily be used to describe this new spectacle. His vivid dreams will form the theme of the show, entwined with the pride of Russia’s most magnificent circus artistes and state of the art special effects.
The newly devised show is set to include The Didyk, a double Russian swing troupe, Gregory’s Girls suspended in mid-air on floating silks, Doctorovs unbelievable Human Statues plus body twisting contortionists Bortnikova.
Award-winning clowns, Valik & Valerik will also be there with their perfect slapstick and Buster Keeton style cunning capers.

Eleanor Bennet
OFF HER TROLLEY
Thursday 4th March 7.45pm
A blend of stand-up, character and song that explores the lives of those that live and work in residential care for the elderly, Off her Trolley looks at the impact of Alzheimer’s disease on the individual and their loved ones and of poor working conditions on quality of care.
Eleanor Bennet is an actress, playwright and song-writer. Like many actors she also has a day job, working as a care assistant for the elderly.
Increasingly disillusioned and concerned with the impact of poor working conditions on quality of care, this was a major motivation for writing the show, along with the desire to express the wisdom that older people have to offer.
Packed with gentle anecdotal humour, Off Her Trolley is the chance to join the carer, the NVQ student and the visitor and share their lives.
Laughter and reflection guaranteed.
Tickets priced £13 (discounts: £11) are available from The Hawth Box Office on 01293 553636 or you can book online at www.hawth.co.uk.

Half Moon present
BEGIN/END
Friday 5th March 7.45pm
An exciting fusion of new writing and multimedia comes to The Hawth in Half Moon’s brand new show Begin/End for audiences aged 14+.
Writer David Lane has connections with West Sussex as he attended Warden Park School and Haywards Heath Sixth Form and still has family in the area.
Inspired by his own work with teenagers and the intensity of friendships that dominate the lives of many young people, David’s new script has been developed in consultation with young people and speaks with the authenticity of their voices. David is an exciting new writer and Begin/End is his first full commission.
Directed by Angela Michaels, Begin/End is a compelling piece of drama in which betrayal and loss of trust can mean that sometimes even the greatest friendships just end.
The multimedia production features the visceral artform VJing not often explored in theatre – blending the original soundtrack with projected video and imagery.
The show centres on the friendship of two girls Lili (Amy Costello) and Yaz (Rachel McKenzie) who are struggling with their identities and growing up. Their friendship offers a form of escapism from their problems at home and school and they become an inseparable gang of two. However something unspoken grows between them and as relationships form and dissolve it is the beginning and end of everything.

Attic Theatre present
1936
Wednesday 24 March 7.45pm
A thrilling take on the run up to the Berlin Olympics in 1936 by Tom McNab, seen through the eyes of American journalist William Shirer.
1936 is a gripping piece of theatre with a nine actor cast. The stakes were high. Hitler craved power, the German Jews were under threat. America was uneasy, the Olympic Committee out of touch. It all rested on the few… and the athletes, among them Jesse Owens.
Tom McNab has experienced success as an Olympic coach, prize winning novelist and Technical Director of Oscar-winning film, Chariots of Fire. A leader in the sports world, Tom has coached international athletics, the British bobsleigh team and England’s silver medal winning squad in Rugby’s 1992 World Cup. He draws from a rich vein of personal experiences in sport, literature, politics and film in all his work and 1936 is no exception.
The play is followed by an excerpt from the Riefenstahl film Olympiad and a discussion led by Olympic coach Tom McNab.

Here’s a wonderful chance to take little ones to a theatre show designed especially for them – everyone’s favourite brother and sister, Charlie and Lola, in their extremely everso wonderful stage show, are coming to The Hawth Crawley!
Charlie is 7 and Lola is 4. She adores her older brother and has an imaginary friend, Soren Lorenson. The play follows Charlie and Lola as they encounter everyday activities such as tidying their rooms and getting ready for bed. They always manage to make the most mundane and boring tasks into a magical and fun adventure! Together they can go anywhere and do anything. Charlie has all the time in the world for his younger sister…unless she breaks his ultimate favourite toy.
Jonathan Lloyd, who adapted Charlie and Lola for the stage, says: “I was really drawn to Charlie and Lola, to the lovely situations that young audiences can recognise. My job was to work out how we were going to make the books and TV episodes into a play. The trick was to take some of the best stories and find a simple way to link them into a day in the life of Lola.”
Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play is presented by four puppeteers, with specially made puppets and the voices from the TV series. Charlie and Lola appear as cut-out cartoon characters in the same magical 3D world they inhabit in the books and TV series. From pink milk to party rings, everything you expect is there!

It was a great day for the school and especially the kids. I didn’t make the trip but know that this isn’t the first time they’ve performed and always ‘raise their game’ under the pressure.
Well done to all the kids!
Thanks for coming along to the event Shelley. It was really nice meeting you.
I hope that you enjoyed the afternoon.
I’ll whizz over some pictures soon.
Hope to see you again at our next event.
Best wishes,
Paul
What an excellent idea! far too many people over look their physical and mental health.. getting caught up in “everyday living”.
Once you create the habit of looking after yourself that bit better, you start to appreciate how much better you feel, less stressed and more able to deal with the inevitable challenges life throws at you.
There are so many ways to improve your health, there really is something for everyone.. although they all take effort, no strapping a contraption on yourself and melting the pounds away.. the rewards come in a physical and psychological way when you DO SOMETHING.
One of the best ways to relieve stress is put sometime aside for yourself.. you’re probably shouting “I don’t have the time” however it is essential you do, otherwise how can you effectively and efficiently manage your life. This is one of the least strenuos parts of being healthy, but takes discipline and focus.
Good luck and remember… if you’re not in optimimum condition, how can you hope to give your very best to others.
Sifu Paul
Thanks Shelley, a lovely report. It was really nice to see you, you’re very welcome at all of our events. I’ll keep you posted of our plans.
I’ve been invited to teach at the opening Nike Sponsored event at the Lilian Baylis School where I’ll be taking mini workshops for 45 minutes from 9.00 – 3.15. Apparently a number of MP’s, sporting celebrities and the TV will be there. It should keep me on my toes
Best wishes,
Paul
See you there! It’s going to be wicked *whoop whoop*
