Horsham District Council’s Piazza Italia 2015 – bigger and better than ever

Thursday, April 9th, 2015

This Easter weekend saw more visitors than ever flock to Horsham District Council’s Piazza Italia festival in Horsham town centre.

Horsham Piazza Italia is now recognised as the premier free to attend event in the south over the Easter Weekend. In its ninth year, the event showcased an even greater variety of cars, bikes, food and entertainment than ever before, truly providing something for all the family.

Horsham Piazza Italia Day by Day

Good Friday, traditionally known as Ferrari Friday, saw in the region of 100 spectacular Ferraris arrive in the Carfax to an enthusiastic welcome from the waiting crowds. Additionally, many extremely rare and stunning looking Italian motorbikes passed through the Carfax on their way to the Bishopric Ducati led display area.

Good Friday was also host to the La Vida fashion show in Piries Place which also featured Beales beauty demonstrations. Models on the day were given a makeover by Beauty Secrets of East Street.

This Good Friday marked the first time in many years that Horsham Piazza Italia was featured on television with a crew from the BBC South Today interviewing local businesses and filming the Ferrari parade. It was great for everyone to see Horsham being advertised as the place to be!

Easter Saturday saw the arrival of the fantastic classic Minis from ItalianJob.com who transported people back to the sixties and seventies with their groovy parade (novelty horns included), before energising Bishopric with their fun clock face display. The organisers were delighted with the response from drivers and public alike and plan to build on this display in future years.

New additions to Piazza Saturday this year were the Horsham Urban Children and Family Centres Children’s activity marquee on the Forum and the Children’s Trust Supercar volunteers and the ‘race ready team’ from Broadbridge Heath Garage which brought swathes of supercars to Market Square and East Street.

Saturday was also all about great entertainment and this is another area in which Piazza Italia had been developed to offer more to all ages and tastes. With the likes of Tony Strange’s characters and his team of brilliant entertainers, Mr Pavarotti, Dan the Hat and many operatic voices contributing to the party atmosphere, visitors were entertained with great shows in newly created performance spaces right across the town centre. A new weekend long commentary from Horsham’s very own, in-comparably eccentric Tim Fifield, kept visitors informed, engaged and amused.

Easter Monday was kicked off by a fantastic parade, organised by Lamborghini Sevenoaks, featuring 11 top of the range Lamborghinis, strutting powerfully through the Carfax before making their way to the Forum display area. The Horsham District Council event team said, “We are delighted to have them join the Piazza Italia family and look forward to having the Lamborghinis and all of our vehicle partners back next year!”

The sun made a massively welcome appearance on Monday and contributed to a truly fantastic day out. The whole town was packed full of fascinating vehicles, with a massive range of supercars and old and new Italian marques, including a new Abarth (souped-up Fiats) display conjured up by local dealer Horsham Car Centre, joined by scooters and stylish older Fiat 500s. This show was enjoyed by possibly the largest crowd ever seen in the history of Piazza Italia.

Overall the festival was a massive success, measured not just on how much the general public enjoyed the event, but also by how much local businesses benefitted by the increase in footfall throughout the town.

With survey feedback still being gathered, it’s looking like over a quarter of the event’s visitors were discovering Piazza Italia for the first time with up to half of those visiting coming from out of town. Most importantly given the objectives, two thirds are saying that Horsham Piazza Italia gave them more reason to return to Horsham in the future. Examples of feedback gathered from the event include:

“This is a great event so well done!”

“Piazza is the best day ever!”

“Really cool and hilarious Italian singer” (Mr.Pavarotti).

The council’s event team also received enquiries from several Italian and English vehicle owners groups who would all like to participate in future events giving the team the opportunity for even more interest to be created.

At a time when high streets are in decline across the UK, one of the main goals for Piazza Italia is to put Horsham on the map for year round visitors, creating huge awareness building opportunities for all of the locally based businesses. Not only did Horsham Piazza Italia attract people from far and wide it also gave residents an even greater reason to be proud of their town and its community.

Horsham District Council Town Centre and Event Manager Garry Mortimer-Cook said, “Whilst Horsham District Council is proud to lead the organisation of this now regionally significant event, Horsham Piazza Italia is without doubt a tribute to the partnership we have with a massive team of fantastic vehicle organisers, commercial sponsors and voluntary and business supporters who make the event possible. We thank each and every one of them for enabling us to make this happen for Horsham. We are already planning for the tenth Piazza Italia to be a very special experience. Piazza Italia 10 will take place on 25 – 28 March 2016 so put it in your diary now so you don’t miss it!”

The 2015 Piazza Italia sponsor and partner team includes, but not exclusively:

Bluecoat Sports, Horsham Car Centre, Lifestyle Group (Mazda), My World Films, Prezzo, Addspeed, AToM, Broadbridge Heath Garage, The Children’s Trust, Guy Leonard & Co, La Vida, Lamborghini Sevenoaks, Mancini Legal, Meridien Modena, Smart Park, Sony Centre, Stay Safe Driving, Toy Barnhaus, Vines of Gatwick, Washington Coachworks, BBC Radio, Beales Department Store, Beauty Secrets, BritWeb, Capitol Horsham, Chestnut Tree House, Hepworth & Co Brewery, Hillier Horsham, Horsham Churches Together, Horsham Enoteca, Horsham Markets, Horsham Museum, Horsham Urban Children and Family Centres, Italian Job.com, La Source, Motori di Marino, Italia in Piazza, Rotary Club of Horsham, Spirit, Steamer Trading, Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, Swan Walk, Balfour Beatty, Bullseye Scooter Club, Tim Fifield, Sussex Ferrari Owners Club, Ducati Owners Club (GB), South Lodge Hotel, Alfa Romeo Owners Club Central Sussex and Faygate Alfa Romeo, Fiat Coupe Club,

HORSHAM ACTOR IN BIG CHARITY SHOW

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

Local actor Tim Fifield brings his one man show back to The Capitol Theatre Horsham for one night only and this time all the profits are being donated to Scope, a charity supporting the needs of disabled people and their families.

Shelley interviews Tim about his great charity night:

Tim has a special reason to support this charity as his sister Sarah was born with Cerebral Palsy. “When my sister was younger, our family received incredible support from Scope and this is my way of saying thank you and giving something back” he explained.

The show is called Not What We Expected and is an uncompromising look at the way we live our lives today seen through the eyes of nine humans and a rather disappointed dog called Vernon. In a series of high octane monologues we see characters struggling with issues such as death, divorce, religion, vegetarian children, sexed up neighbours and messages “from the other side”.

The show was a critically acclaimed sell out the last time it came to Horsham and Tim is hoping to repeat his success this time round.

“Horsham is my home town and it’s a real thrill to be playing The Capitol again. The show is great fun to do and is never the same twice especially as I’m adding new material all the time”.

Michael Gattrell (pictured right), the Capitol theatre’s manager is seen welcoming Tim back to the theatre, “it’s really great to see Tim’s show here again, he’s a very popular performer and we’re happy that he’s chosen our theatre for this special fund raising event”.

Not What We Expected is being performed on the 30th September at The Capitol theatre. Tickets available from the box office on 01403 750220 or www.thecapitolhorsham.com — at The Capitol

We have some clips of the characters of Tim’s performance  at The Hawth last year along with an interview by Shelley.

Lunch At The Launch

Monday, May 10th, 2010

The launch of the first business networking lunchtime BNI in Sussex is happening this Wednesday.

What is BNI?

BNI (Business Networking International) is a worldwide organisation for Business’ who are looking to increase their networking circle and profits. It all started with Dr. Ivan Misner who is the Founder & Chairman of BNI, as well as a New York Times best-selling author.

Called the “Father of Modern Networking,” Dr. Misner is one of the world’s leading experts in business networking and referral marketing.

The BNI has been successfully helping Business’ for over twenty years now, with thousands of chapters worldwide. You can read more about Dr Misner here.

What are ‘Chapters’?

There can only be one profession represented in each meeting, therefore maximising the potential for good referrals from the other members. Some groups can be 40 members plus! So, as a whole they call these groups ‘Chapters’. Members have a sixty second slot to tell the members what they do, how they do it, and to describe what type of referrals they are looking for. A referral being a solid recommendation by a fellow member. With each member almost being a sales force on your behalf, business soon picks up.

What is different about a lunchtime BNI meeting?

The BNI meetings are usually held from 6.45am until 8.30am Tuesday to Friday (breakfast meetings). Mondays are saved for the excessive training supplied by BNI. Training is included within the membership fee and is there to help the members with their presentation skills and much more.

BNI Achievers are the very first lunchtime BNI meeting to successfully launch in the whole of Sussex, ever!

This is not surprising when you take a look at some of the members who have worked hard to make this launch a success. The Area Director, Greg Davies, has been a member of BNI for several years and became an Area Director about two years ago now. Greg told us “I am very proud to be part of the first lunch time chapter in Sussex. It is a great achievement and shows that the BNI is leading the way for networking for business’ in Crawley and surrounding areas”.

The meetings are held under a professional agenda but it is the members who make the Chapter a success with their input and personalities. They have a committee who are there to help and advise every step of the way. The new Chapter Director for the Achievers Chapter will be Tim Fifield, who some may know as an avid networker in the world of business with a mass of expertise and knowledge. Tim is always happy to pass this knowledge on. Tim told us “This heralds a new opportunity for business’ to network in a structured environment with all the advantages enjoyed by BNI breakfast members. I am really excited about this new opportunity and would welcome any company looking to grow to come and meet us”.

Greg has worked successfully to launch this lunchtime BNI chapter

Where is this meeting?

The Achievers Chapter meet at The Premier Inn (Goffs Park). The cost of a minimal £10 covers the cost of the meeting where lunch is also supplied. There is plenty of parking.

So, in brief, if you are a business in the Crawley area and feel you could benefit from more business, then this a meeting you will not want to miss. Please visit their website to see if your business is not represented then fill in the form to say you would like to attend this Wednesday 12th May at 11.30am. The meeting ends at 13.30 with open networking continuing with coffee and tea supplied by the venue.

Just one last thing. Please remember to take about fifty business cards to hand out at the meeting. Oh, and enjoy!

We would like to wish the members of BNI Achievers all the best for a successful future 🙂
