Henry Smith MP has given his support to the non-profit organisation, Peace One Day, and the UN International Day of Peace.
At a presentation at the House of Commons last week, Henry said, “I’m thrilled to be supporting this extraordinary movement. Peace One Day has come such a long way in a very short space of time, and I am confident that their future plans will prove successful.”
Henry also had the opportunity to discuss the issue with internationally acclaimed actor, Jude Law, who is an ambassador for the campaign and Jeremy Gilley, who founded Peace One Day in 1999. In 2001, the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21st September, now known as Peace Day.
Peace One Day plan to hold events as part of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012. Henry continued, “It’s now up to us to take it forward and I invite all the people of Crawley to work with me to make Peace Day on 21st September a really fantastic and meaningful event in 2012 and every year.”
