A journey through breast cancer – Angelica

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Back in August 2010 a very dear friend called to say the four words no-one wants to hear, “I have breast cancer”.

Linda, known to most as Angelica, is a professional artistic photographer who also does modelling work, so when the doctor gave Angelica the news of her test results, it came as a massive blow.

In true ‘Angelica’ style, she took it all in her stride and decided to record her journey in the hope it would help others with awareness and strength of courage.

Running for the last two weeks and carrying on for the next week in Ginger Moo (County Mall) is the ‘Angelica – A Journey Through Breast Cancer’ which are photo’s of Angelica and her journey through treatment and recovery. We spoke to Angelica who told us “It wasn’t a conscious plan by me. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last August the last thing that was going through my mind was that I should record what was happening in my life.

But as I am a photographer it was a natural thing for me to take photos either to express my emotions or to keep a record of events. As time went on I realised I had amassed quite a significant ‘snapshot’ of my life and that it would be interesting to share this openly.

It was a challenge to find a gallery who were prepared to display work about such an emotive subject, but Ginger Moo were happy to help and the exhibition opened in January 2011″.

We are very pleased to announce that Angelica has been given the all clear!

Many thanks go to Topsy Turvy, Ginger Moo, Mayor Cllr Lee Burke & Mayoress Cllr Ali Burke, Paul Daniels & Debbie McGee and all who supported Angelica before during and continue to do so 🙂

Crawley Borough Council is the face of 10:10

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Crawley Borough Council is the face of 10:10

Crawley Borough Council is set to become the 10:10 councils poster pin-up!

One of the council’s recycling trucks will get a pink 10:10 makeover thanks to the help of contractors Veolia, who are happy to help pay for the paint job and tell the town about the council’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 10 per cent in 2010.

Crawley Council was successful after 10:10 campaign organisers invited all

178 participating councils to become the face of 10:10. The organisers picked Crawley to model and were impressed with its eco efforts.

The move means Crawley Council will be THE image for 10:10 councils and one of the iconic images for the whole campaign, helping to spread the green word far and wide while proving its environmentally friendly commitment.

The makeover will mark October 10 when eco events will be taking place across the world as part of the 10:10:10 day of action to help spread the word and celebrate the efforts of the millions who are helping to reduce carbon emissions.

Cllr Duncan Crow, Deputy Leader of Crawley Council, said: “This is brilliant news and we’re really proud to be a part of it. We’re a very green thinking council and we’ve already come a long way to reduce our carbon emissions over the last few years.

“Our aim is to reduce the council’s emissions year on year – reducing them by at least 20 per cent by 2015 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050.”

Crawley Borough Council has asked schools to get involved for 10:10:10 and a children’s art exhibition at Ginger Moo in the County Mall will be shown in time for the big day.

Tree planting in the Memorial Gardens will also take place on October 7 and

8 where 30 trees (10+10+10) will be planted to form an avenue of trees.

A 10:10 stall at Crawley’s farmer’s market on October 10 will give visitors the opportunity to find out more about the project and grab some green goodies too.

The 10:10 campaign is an international project to encourage as many individuals, businesses and organisations to cut their carbon emissions by 10 per cent in 2010.
