Successful preventing extremism conference
Crawley residents learnt more about the work being carried out to help prevent extremism from expert speakers at a major event last week.
The conference, which was organised by Crawley Borough Council and held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sunday September 26, was called ‘Preventing extremism and building resilience in our community’.
More than 80 councillors, council officers, guest speakers and community representatives all attended to learn more about the Prevent work that is being undertaken locally and nationally to build stronger and safer communities.
A panel-led debate ended the event, giving guests the opportunity to make their own contributions on the issues raised.
Councillor Nigel Boxall, Cabinet member for Community Engagement, said:
“Building stronger communities and safeguarding vulnerable individuals is a responsibility for us all.
“There has often been uncertainty in the town around what Prevent is. The conference helped explain this and was an extremely useful event.
“We have received lots of positive feedback from attendees who said they found the day interesting and insightful.”
