On Saturday, young people from Oriel Youth Wing and Bewbush Youth Centre were invited to Solihull to speak at “Choose Youth” a National Youth Rally to stop the cuts to the country’s youth services.
Over 1000 young people were at the event, attended by cross party MP’s, Councillors and Youth Workers, who heard from Youth People across England who are facing cuts to their Youth Service.
Chris Oxlade, County Councillor for Bewbush and Ifield West went with the young people from Crawley and said “It was an emotive and passionate cry to stop the Conservative-led cuts to our Youth Service here in West Sussex and in other parts of the country. Our young people from Crawley stood up and spoke about how much their youth centre has meant to them and done for them. It’s a deep shame that on Friday, West Sussex County Council voted another £2million of cuts to the youth service which will cut youth centres here in Crawley. Every Conservative Crawley County Councillor who was at the meeting on Friday voted for the cuts. Despite a Labour motion to put money back into the Youth Service, the conservatives refused to support the idea and voted it out.”
