A little goes a long way for charity

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Amanda Lund-Batchelor and her husband Duncan of Ananda Healing Limited felt compelled to donate a percentage of their companies earnings to a worthy charity and St Catherine’s is close too their hearts.

Ananda Healing Limited

For the last three years, Amanda and her husband Duncan have run a Holistics Therapy Practice called Ananda Healing Limited. They feel very passionate about peoples wellbeing and care and felt the synergee between the work they do and St Catherine’s to be very apt. Amanda and Duncan donate to one charity a year so when her father became ill and was cared for by the staff at St Catherine’s the connection become even more valuable. Amanda told us St Catherine’s has always been one of her favourite charities for the work they do, which extends to the families as well as the person who is unwell.

St Catherine’s Hospice:

St Catherine’s Hospice is a charity dedicated to providing specialised end of life care and support to local people, their families, friends and carers.

For over 25 years we have been providing high quality hospice care, free of charge, to people living in Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex and East Surrey.  Hospice care is based on the belief that each person is more than their illness, and that each of us has unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.  St Catherine’s responds to the needs of each individual, helping people achieve the best possible quality of life.

This highly personal, holistic approach to care takes time, skill and experience from a multi-professional team.  We care for people in the hospice, in their homes and in nursing homes.  We also provide training, advice and support to other health professionals.

The Donation:

Amanda and Duncan dedicated the month of September as their month for St Catherine’s, encouraging their clients to book in their treatments that month knowing a percentage of their money paid would then be donated to such a great charity. Amanda and Duncan raised a massive £160! Michael of St Catherine’s told us this is a staggering amount of money and gratefully received. Michael went on to tell us “this money could cover the cost of a patient to attend our Day Hospice for a week and a half, which makes such a difference. Every little helps and we are more than grateful to Ananda Healing for their donation”.

We would like to thank Amanda and Michael for talking to us. Well done to Ananda Healing for this very generous feat.

Why not dedicated a month to a charity of your choice and give a percentage of your earnings. If you choose to do this, Crawley Happy Times would like to hear from you :-)

Happy 10th anniversary Tek Express’ “The Laptop Specialist”

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

On Wednesday 3rd November 2010 Tek Express ’ “The Laptop Specialist” proudly turned ten years old. This is a great achievement for any business. Shelley went along to meet joint owner Sam Francis and to find out the secret of their success.

Statement from Tek Express on their birthday:

Today marks a very special day for us as it’s the 10th anniversary of our company! We’re not sure where the time has gone but we are very pleased to celebrate such a great achievement and we want to commemorate this special day by giving something back to our loyal customers – so we have come up with an exciting new service. As an avid reader of our newsletter, you will know that its purpose is not to sell you services but to keep you in touch with laptop news. So this is a special one-off edition.

Maintenance for all

As the business world continually develops we here at TEK Express, The Laptop Specialist have seen customer needs change rapidly in recent years. We’ve been offering a laptop swap out service to our blue chip clients since way back in 2000 and have supported smaller businesses since 2002. But until now we’ve not offered an individual maintenance service to our customers and their laptops.

Having received a lot of feedback from our customers on the need for such a solution – we’ve taken the time to analyse all the requirements and to then try and build a solution that will be useful for the individual laptop users.

So here’s what we’d like to offer. For an annual fee, we will repair all problems, whether general hardware failures or the result of an unintentional accident. Once inspected, we will repair it within 5 working days (parts availability permitting) and have it ready to return back to you. If you need us to arrange the collection and delivery back, we will do this at cost for just £25.00. If the laptop is going to be in our workshop beyond that time, we can provide you with a working internet machine to tide you over whilst your laptop is being repaired. To kick off the service, you will need to send the unit into us for our ‘MOT’ service where we run full hardware diagnostics and the removal of dust and foreign debris from the working parts. We also use a ‘UV wand’ to sweep over your laptop safely killing 99% of bacteria and even dust mites within 10 seconds. We class this as preventative maintenance helping us to advise you of an issue before it evens happens. So what does it cost I hear you ask, can you believe as little as 16p per day?

Joint owner Sam Francis is very proud of their 10 years in business

And as it’s our 10th birthday today, we are feeling generous. If you take out this service before the 30th November, we will carry out the MOT and arrange the pickup and delivery for free – yes, we are willing to throw in £25.00 courier fees. The normal cost of this service alone is £69.95 – this is our present to you!

If you are interested in this offer, please email us at sales@tekexpress.co.uk, all we need to know is the make and model of your laptop so that we can come back to you with a fixed price.

End.

If you visit Tek Express please mention you saw this article on Crawley Happy Times :-)

Lunch At The Launch

Monday, May 10th, 2010

The launch of the first business networking lunchtime BNI in Sussex is happening this Wednesday.

What is BNI?

BNI (Business Networking International) is a worldwide organisation for Business’ who are looking to increase their networking circle and profits. It all started with Dr. Ivan Misner who is the Founder & Chairman of BNI, as well as a New York Times best-selling author.

Called the “Father of Modern Networking,” Dr. Misner is one of the world’s leading experts in business networking and referral marketing.

The BNI has been successfully helping Business’ for over twenty years now, with thousands of chapters worldwide. You can read more about Dr Misner here.

What are ’Chapters’?

There can only be one profession represented in each meeting, therefore maximising the potential for good referrals from the other members. Some groups can be 40 members plus! So, as a whole they call these groups ‘Chapters’. Members have a sixty second slot to tell the members what they do, how they do it, and to describe what type of referrals they are looking for. A referral being a solid recommendation by a fellow member. With each member almost being a sales force on your behalf, business soon picks up.

What is different about a lunchtime BNI meeting?

The BNI meetings are usually held from 6.45am until 8.30am Tuesday to Friday (breakfast meetings). Mondays are saved for the excessive training supplied by BNI. Training is included within the membership fee and is there to help the members with their presentation skills and much more.

BNI Achievers are the very first lunchtime BNI meeting to successfully launch in the whole of Sussex, ever!

This is not surprising when you take a look at some of the members who have worked hard to make this launch a success. The Area Director, Greg Davies, has been a member of BNI for several years and became an Area Director about two years ago now. Greg told us “I am very proud to be part of the first lunch time chapter in Sussex. It is a great achievement and shows that the BNI is leading the way for networking for business’ in Crawley and surrounding areas”.

The meetings are held under a professional agenda but it is the members who make the Chapter a success with their input and personalities. They have a committee who are there to help and advise every step of the way. The new Chapter Director for the Achievers Chapter will be Tim Fifield, who some may know as an avid networker in the world of business with a mass of expertise and knowledge. Tim is always happy to pass this knowledge on. Tim told us “This heralds a new opportunity for business’ to network in a structured environment with all the advantages enjoyed by BNI breakfast members. I am really excited about this new opportunity and would welcome any company looking to grow to come and meet us”.

Greg has worked successfully to launch this lunchtime BNI chapter

Where is this meeting?

The Achievers Chapter meet at The Premier Inn (Goffs Park). The cost of a minimal £10 covers the cost of the meeting where lunch is also supplied. There is plenty of parking.

So, in brief, if you are a business in the Crawley area and feel you could benefit from more business, then this a meeting you will not want to miss. Please visit their website to see if your business is not represented then fill in the form to say you would like to attend this Wednesday 12th May at 11.30am. The meeting ends at 13.30 with open networking continuing with coffee and tea supplied by the venue.

Just one last thing. Please remember to take about fifty business cards to hand out at the meeting. Oh, and enjoy!

We would like to wish the members of BNI Achievers all the best for a successful future :-)

Community Book Pledge

Claire Mowl-Seegobin is an independent Usborne representative who is making it her mission to assist children of all ages to improve their reading and writing.

Claire is currently heading a project on behalf of Gossops Green Primary School in association with Usborne. Usborne are a worldwide publishing company who supply books for home, schools and libraries Usborne will donate 60% of the total sales over £500 in extra books to Gossops Green Primary School. In real terms this would mean if every parent with a child at the school, donated £1.50, this would give an estimated total of £723. Usbornes would then donate and extra £433 in books making a total of £1156 for the school. All this from a simple £1.50 donation, astonishing!

Claire is going one better than this by actually donating 15% of her own earnings to any individual who wishes to purchase additional books for a child personally. All they need do is email Claire and inform her the value of their order.

Companies or individuals can either donate a sum or purchase books on Gossops Green Primary Shcool’s behalf to which Usborne will donate a percentage to the school for more books.

Claire told us this would be easily achievable for most schools in our area if companies were to get involved and make a donation of some kind. Do you think your school could benefit from such a project?

An average book from Usbornes costs just £5.99.  The books are all extremely good value for money and very educational. Children respond to the books extraordinarily well because of their irresistible content – humour, colour, surprise and originality.

If you would like your school to get involved and benefit from Claire’s and Usborne’s generosity, then please contact Claire directly via email claire.usbornebooks@googlemail.com or visit the website here.

Claire would also like to announce the FOGGS Xmas shopping night at Gossops Green Primary School is on Thursday 8th October from 19:00 till 21:00 (adults only). Entry is free.
If anyone would like to have a stand at this event the cost is £10 and a donation to the raffle. Please contact Crawley Happy Times on 01293 572182.

How women can turn creative flair into a business opportunity

Are you a woman wanting to start a business in a creative industry but not sure where to start? If so, look out for New FREE courses coming soon to West Sussex.

As part of the ‘Keep West Sussex Working’ project, the County Council is funding courses to help women turn their creative flair into a business opportunity.

The location, dates and times of courses will be determined to suit those interested.

Many women explore creative skills and talents, such as painting, sculpting or designing, through hobbies and workshops. These courses will consist of workshops and coaching sessions designed to help women to take this a stage further, and establish creative enterprises that will work for them.

They will discuss how to overcome challenges and barriers to business start-up and employment in West Sussex, developing skills in business planning, marketing and accounting.

West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy, Deborah Urquhart, said: “Any woman with a creative flair should really take advantage of this opportunity.

“The courses could turn passion and enthusiasm of a creative skill into a driving force for local economic renewal in the county.

Although West Sussex County Council is funding these courses, they will be run by the not-for-profit organisation Women’s Wisdom.

The organisation runs a variety of workshops to support the personal growth of people in all stages of life, and believes that ‘artistic exploration naturally brings greater self-knowledge’.

Deborah adds, “This really is the wiser way to start up your creative business so, if you’re interested, contact the organisation and locations and dates can be chosen.”

The Crawley Happy Times says good luck to all the women looking to start up their own creative business. We’re sure that the course offered by Women’s Wisdom above will get your business going in no time!
