As most of you will be aware by now, Tom Vanhinsbergh and Ben Le Beau are attempting to break the Guiness World Record for the longest 3-legged walk within twelve hours in April of this year. Mayelin Box, Manageress of MBT Crawley, called us saying she had seen the piece on Tom and Ben on our website and would like to support them by donating a pair MBT shoes.
We spoke to Tom and Ben who had no knowledge of MBTs so we arranged to meet them at the shop on the Sunday. Tom and Ben walked twenty seven miles from Crawley to Brighton on Sunday morning so it seemed quite apt to try the shoes out after they had walked in normal trainers for such a distance.
On arrival to the MBT shop based on the first floor in the County Mall, we were warmly greeted by the three members of staff present, Mayelin Box, Manageress and her assistants Dieter Staples and Steven Magezi. Tom and Ben arrived shortly after and were introduced to the staff. Mayelin proceeded to educate the young men on how the MBT shoe works and how it could benefit them in their training.
MBT recognised a charitable local cause and felt it was something they could get involved in. Mayelin told us “MBT Crawley are happy to help with such a great cause and will be happy to be involved with other causes in the future”.
Exert from MBT’s website:
MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) was born in 1996 when we discovered that natural instability has some amazing health benefits. We made this discovery by observing the wonderfully agile Masai people walking barefoot on natural, uneven ground. Seeing these people in action made us realize that the human body is simply not designed to walk or stand on the hard, flat surfaces of modern society. So we set out to develop a new kind of footwear, one that would mimic walking on soft, uneven ground. The results have been dramatic and revolutionary. MBTs are now sold in more than 35 countries around the world and enthusiastic users testify that wearing MBTs noticeably increase their well-being.
MBTs activate and tone your muscles
MBTs are good for your whole body (not just your feet)
MBTs help you burn more calories whether walking or standing
MBTs increase your well-being
When the body is unstable, the body is stronger
When walking in MBTs, the ground is no longer flat and stable, so the body has to use more muscles to compensate and create stability. This activates the whole body, increases back muscle activity, improves posture, tightens buttocks and thighs and even burns more calories. All while reducing stress on the ankle, knee and hip joints. And with extensive scientific documentation to back up these claims, healthcare professionals around the world are now recommending MBT footwear in the treatment of backache, musculoskeletal injuries and other physical pains.
We have had the pleasure of the MBT experience when they first arrived in the County Mall. We have a pair and can confirm they are an experience not to be missed.
We interviewed Mayelin and the Guiness World Record breaking men, Tom and Ben and this is what they had to say:
We would like to thank Mayelin and her wonderful staff for welcoming us to their shop once again and of course for making such a generous donation to Tom and Ben. If you have not tried a pair of MBTs, we would highly recommend you popping in to experience the anti-shoe which are MBTs.
