Worthing and Southlands Hospitals proposals to be scrutinised
Planned changes to services at Worthing and Southlands Hospitals will be discussed by the West Sussex Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee (HOSC) this month.
The Committee meets on Thursday March 17, at 10.30am, in County Hall, Chichester. The meeting is being webcast at www.westsussex.public-i.tv/site/.
Top of the agenda is the proposal by Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust to change services at Worthing and Southlands Hospitals. The Committee will be agreeing its response to the public consultation currently underway.
Chairman Christine Field said: “HOSC understands that this issue is very close to people’s hearts and hopes to play its part in ensuring that residents have proper access to the health services they need.
“We recognise that the proposals are a substantial variation in service and will be closely scrutinising them for change. We will also be looking at the public consultation process and outcomes at our next meeting in May.”
Other items on the agenda include the Committee agreeing its response to Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust’s proposal to become an NHS Foundation Trust.
Progress on improvements to community services as part of the mental health service change by NHS West Sussex and the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust will also be discussed by the Committee.
The Committee has been monitoring access to stroke services for West Sussex residents, and is due to receive a response from NHS West Sussex on HOSC’s request that it reconsider its provision of out of hours access to thrombolysis (clot-busting drug) treatment for stroke patients.
